It’s going to be awhile before you see any Universal Binaries.

Just look here:

./configure:2160: gcc -O -g -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk -arch i386 -arch ppc conftest.c >&5

/usr/bin/ld: -syslibroot: multiply specified

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

/usr/bin/ld: -syslibroot: multiply specified

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

lipo: can’t open input file: /var/tmp//cc5HJuLE.out (No such file or directory)

Basically, there’s no ‘easy’, trivial, or even takes-a-couple-of-hours way to make most GNU configure built software create a universal binary under a PPC host at the moment; however, this universal build structure is entirely native on the x86 development systems, and the new x86 variants. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a couple grand to throw at free software that costs me money to offer every month.

Translation: You may not see a Universal Binary Update here. If I figure a way to work it out without having to maintain a seperate OSX code base, I’ll do it. If not, I’m not willing to put countless hours of effort into tools I no longer use on a platform I can’t even test.

Feel free to contact myself, or the original authors if you’re willing to take over maintenance – however, don’t check back too often for a Universal build.. the outlook is bleak.
